Motivation.

It's the fuel we all seek, that spark that drives us to continue to show up, learn new skills, improve in workouts and chase those personal bests. Yet, some days it feels as slippery as the dust in our chalk buckets. We envision waking up ready to tackle anything, but then the morning haze rolls in, and our cozy beds start to feel like quicksand. We get to the end of the working day and we are too tired, time has slipped away, we forgot our gym bag. Our inner critic whispers, “Do you really want to?”

That’s where Bright Spots Friday at CrossFit Kantok comes in. This tradition is designed to ignite that motivational fire within us. By celebrating our weekly victories - the bright spots - we can build a community buzz that keeps us coming back for more. There’s nothing like the energy of sharing your wins and being inspired by the success of others!

Understanding Motivation

Pain Point 1: Recognizing and Celebrating Wins

Motivation can be tricky. We often focus on our setbacks, letting our successes fade into the background, feeling like we're pushing a heavy sled uphill. Every little win (like sweating it out on a tough Thursday afternoon) deserves recognition, but negativity can drown them out.

Bright Spots are here to kick that negativity to the curb. By sharing our small wins, we shift our mindset to see that progress is a series of mini-milestones, not just one giant leap.

Did you shave seconds off your last time?

Finally nail a set of Double Unders?

Eat that kale salad like a champ?

Share it! Each small step is a building block for confidence and lasting motivation.

Pain Point 2: Sustaining Motivation through Constant Reinforcement

Motivation can be like a kettlebell: easily knocked off course without consistent reinforcement. When soreness and fatigue hit, it’s tough to keep pushing.

Bright Spots Friday transforms motivation from a fleeting spark into a weekly boost. With every shared win, we’re not just posting, we’re creating a community of positivity. This ritual keeps our spirits high and our motivation strong.

Read about someone mastering their first muscle-up? You’ll want to chase that goal too.

See another member crush a weightlifting PR? Suddenly, that barbell is calling your name.

Every Friday serves as a reminder that success is a journey, not a sprint, and each of us contributes to that motivational puzzle.

But why should I share?

Well, there is this powerful psychological phenomenon known as confirmation bias.

It’s what happens when you buy a new car. Here’s an example: You buy a brand new Toyota Hilux, and then the next day, as you’re driving your brand new car, all you see are Toyota Hilux’s everywhere! Did everyone go and buy the same exact car as you yesterday? No! You just happened to notice more of them, because they are currently on your mind.

So how does this work with Bright Spots. Well as Friday approaches, athletes will begin to look for and take note of Bright Spots they have throughout the week, that way they can remember them and post them to our private Facebook group. As you begin to think more about Bright Spots, they will start to see them in more places, just like the car.

This has a snowball effect.

The more Bright Spots you see the more you will think about them. And then in turn the more you’ll look for them, which will cause you to think more about them and thus see them more and so forth and so on. Until eventually you see them everywhere, and you can’t help but smile, because life is truly so bright!

Embrace the Bright Spot Within.

Bright Spots Friday isn’t just a trend, it’s engrained in our Facebook Group as a consistent practice that proves motivation is contagious, that positive reinforcement fuels us, and that small wins pave the way to success. Remember, success isn’t accidental; it’s built through shared stories and a supportive community.

Tip: As you reflect on your week, think about your own Bright Spot. It doesn’t have to be monumental. Maybe you nailed your meal prep or showed up for that early morning WOD. Maybe it has nothing to do with what you did at the gym, that’s cool … share it anyway! Share it each Friday in the CrossFit KanTok Facebook Group, and let’s rally together as we pursue our bigger goals.

If you are not a member of our internal Facebook group, please request to join the CROSSFIT KANTOK CREW page. This is a mode of communication for us.

Together, we’re creating something powerful, one Bright Spot at a time!
