How to Stay Fit When You Get Bored

You started out strong. Worked out every day, hitting the gym with gusto every day. You looked up some free workout programs online and you went all in. Your clothes started fitting better, and friends, family and work mates commented on how much energy you had. Your partner gave you compliments for the first time is a while. But then you got bored. You started out strong.

You worked out every day, hitting the gym often, and hard! You looked up some free workout programs online and you went all in. Your clothes started fitting better, and friend, family and work mates commented on how much energy you had. Your partner gave you compliments for the first time is a while.

But then you got bored.

Your free program turned into the same thing every week. Grilled chicken and broccoli got very, very boring when you made the same meal your mainstay, day after day.

Negative self-talk started to creep in. You started to wonder if it was all really worth it? All because you were bored. But you couldn't come up with solution to your boredom and lack of enthusiasm for your workout program.

If this sounds like you, then here's some ideas to get you over the boredom hump!

Phone a Friend

Fitness is always more fun with friends, so ask your bestie to join you for a class! You’ll be doing you BOTH a favour. Especially when you're not feeling enthused about your workout. Get out there and socialize. The gym can be your means of connecting with other people. So make connecting and relationships your focus. Your workout then becomes a means to an end instead of the be-all and end-all!

Health is about more than exercise. We need human connection, so hit two birds with one stone!

Mix It Up

Are you a bored runner? Try mixing in some strength training! Been pumping iron since forever? Get out there and use your muscles to move your body! Get out on bush walk, try biking on a trail, head to the council pool and splash about a bit.

Adding some novelty, or trying something new, can be just the thing to get you excited about fitness and working out once more. Trying to mix things up, do new things, or even doing the same things with some variation, can give you new perspectives on what you've been doing up until that point. You often here us talk about fitness being a journey. Well ... it is. But it's also a process. The process involves stopping every now and then to reflect, recalibrate and renew. Do this regularly and you won't ever be bored again.

The same goes for your nutrition. If you’re tired of the same old healthy recipes, try choosing a few new ones to prep this week! We’ve got a lots of easy, tasty options right here in our Sustainable Nutrition Guide. [LINK]

Find a Coach

Accountability is the name of the game for long-term health, and working with a coach can help prevent stagnation.

A good coach will help keep you on track while providing the novelty you need to keep boredom at bay. Whether that means novelty in your workouts or your nutrition plan, a coach can help you set realistic goals and keep you focused on them when motivation wanes.
