When we think about losing weight, the first thing that often comes to mind is how it will make us look to others. Especially for women, there's this historical pressure to meet certain beauty standards to please everyone else. This is compounded by the fact that everyone seems to want to offer their opinions on exactly how women should look. If you read the comment section of any Instagram post by a professional, female CrossFit athlete, you'll see people offering their opinions about the athlete's appearance. You know what? People are still not universally impressed with how they look! (I'm sure these women don't care). If we can change this mindset for women, the whole process can become much more fulfilling. Let's do what women are often not very good at and put ourselves and the benefits to us first.

One of the biggest wins is your health. Losing weight can drastically lower your risk of serious health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and joint problems. Imagine having more energy to do the things you love and feeling stronger and more capable every day. Getting a scan so you know your body fat percentage can be beneficial, shifting the focus to changing your body composition so you are not just 'getting skinny' you are improving your health.

Then there's the mental side of things. It's not just about fitting into a smaller size; it's about feeling good about yourself from the inside out. When you achieve your weight loss goals, it's a confidence boost like no other. You start to appreciate your body for what it can do, not just how it looks. There are very few things demonstrate just how amazing our bodies can be when we take care of them than CrossFit. Women who start CrossFit to lose weight often find the 'why' of weight loss shift to a focus on weight loss improving their performance in the gym - making them move faster and more easily.

And let's not forget the social aspect. While it's nice to receive compliments, the real satisfaction comes from knowing you're taking care of yourself. It's about feeling empowered and setting an example for others, rather than trying to fit into someone else idea of beauty.

But perhaps the most personal benefit is the journey itself. Losing weight isn't just about dropping kilos; it's about learning discipline, discovering your strengths, and becoming more in tune with what your body needs. It's a journey of self-discovery and self-care that goes way beyond a number on a scale.

So, next time you think about weight loss, think beyond the surface. Focus on feeling healthier, happier, and more confident in your own skin. Because when you prioritise your well-being over pleasing others, that's when you truly shine.
