If you're someone who's already hitting the gym regularly or has experience with high-intensity workouts or strength training, it might seem tempting to skip the onramp program when you start at our gym. After all, you've got a solid fitness base, right? But even for seasoned gym-goers, jumping straight into a functional fitness class without an onramp is a risky move. Here’s why doing an onramp program is essential, no matter how fit you already are ... and how completing our intro program actually gets you more value for your fitness dollar.

1. Learn Proper Technique and Stay Safe

Our workout program involves a ton of different exercises, from Olympic lifts like the clean and jerk to bodyweight movements like pull-ups and burpees. Even if you’ve done some of these movements before, our program requires certain standards as a way of executing them. The onramp program is designed to teach you the right way to do each movement, so you don’t risk injuring yourself from bad form.

For example, Olympic lifts like the snatch or overhead squat can be tricky, even for experienced lifters. If you don’t know the ins and outs of the technique, you’re more likely to hurt yourself—especially when you're lifting heavy or after you've done a bunch of other exercises. An onramp program lets you practice those movements with less weight, at a slower pace, so you can nail the form before you add more intensity. A coach is a second pairs of eyes (no mirrors in our gym!) that will offer a no-holds barred assessment of the quality of your movement and the execution of technique.

2. Injury Prevention is Key

Our fast pace and varied workouts are great for improving your fitness, but they also come with some risk for the inexperienced — especially if you’re not used to the specific exercises. Even if you’ve been doing high-intensity workouts or strength training, our program can be a big shift because it often mixes movements in ways you haven’t experienced before.

The onramp program helps you learn how to pace yourself and how to use proper form while you’re pushing yourself hard. It also teaches you how to listen to your body, make modifications if necessary, and avoid overdoing it. Jumping straight into regular classes without that knowledge can leave you worn out or more likely to sustain minor injuries. Also, many workouts require you to recover faster between exercises, so learning to manage fatigue is a huge advantage. Our coaches specialise in delivering this knowledge.

3. Get Used to Workout Structure

If you’re coming from a traditional gym background, you might be used to a set routine where you work the same muscles every time or stick to a few types of exercises. In our program, on the other hand, it's all about constantly changing things up, with different exercises every day to challenge your body in new ways.

The onramp program is perfect for helping you get the hang of this variety. It gives you a feel for what a typical workout looks like and how it feels to do different kinds of exercises in quick succession. You’ll also learn how to track your progress and see how different types of training (strength, conditioning, etc.) come together in a workout. Getting accustomed to this flow before diving into high-intensity sessions makes a huge difference.

4. Build a Solid Foundation for Long-Term Success

Even if you're a seasoned athlete, you may not have come across this unique training style and it can be tough, or take longer to adjust to without some help. The onramp program our coaches help you lay a strong foundation of basic movements and skills so you can progress safely. Without it, you risk rushing into more advanced movements without understanding the fundamentals, which can set you back or even lead to frustration.

By starting with an onramp, you'll get to build a better understanding of your body and your fitness level. You’ll feel more confident when you're ready to jump into regular classes, and you’ll set yourself up for long-term success in our fitness program, rather than burning out or getting stuck at a plateau. Plus, starting at a comfortable pace lets you enjoy the process rather than rushing through it, which helps you stay motivated over time.

Just do it...

So, even if you’re already fit and experienced with other workouts, don’t skip our onramp program. It’s crucial for learning the right techniques, preventing injuries, getting comfortable with the unique structure of our fitness program, and building a solid foundation for long-term progress. It’ll give you the best chance to succeed in smashing your goals, stay safe, and enjoy the challenges it brings!
