Pausing your membership at a fitness coaching gym like ours might seem like an easy fix if you're short on time or money, but it’s not always the best choice in the long run. Taking a break from your gym plan could end up setting you back more than you think. Especially if you're someone who benefits from structure and motivation that a coach provides. Momentum is also a really critical element of any plan to get the best results possible. You may think you can get by on your own with home workouts or a few runs here and there, but the reality is, it’s easy to lose focus and fall off track when there's no one there to guide you. And by far, the most common outcome is that a pause is the same as giving yourself permission to not work out for a week, 2 weeks or sometimes even more.

Just think about the impact that has on the gains you may have achieved. Pause your membership, in favour or 'taking it easy' can easily cancel out all that hard work!

When you’re in a fitness program with a coach, you're not just getting workouts—you’re getting a plan tailored to your needs. A coach can adjust things as you progress, push you when you're slacking, and give you that extra push of accountability. Without that, you might start skipping sessions, not pushing yourself hard enough, or even worse, you might not work out at all. A coach can do the same thing for you if you can't actually make it to the gym. Solid, home based workouts are a dime a dozen. The value of coaching is accountability!

Need to go on a well earned vacation? Ask a coach to program a workout routine for you that accounts for your environment and your goals.

So ... pausing doesn’t mean you have to quit working out completely if you need a break from the gym. Maintaining an active membership means you can still stay active with independent workouts—simple things like bodyweight exercises, stretching, or even a jog can keep your body moving and maintain some level of fitness. Plus, doing these workouts helps maintain consistency, which is key to long-term progress. Even if you can’t go all out, staying somewhat active is better than doing nothing at all. And once again ... a coach will provide the support needed to keep up that momentum.

A coach can still be valuable during these independent workouts, even if you only work with them once in a while. Think of it like a quick check-in to see how you're doing, adjust your form, or give you new ideas to keep things fresh. You don't have to commit to months of coaching, but having a coach’s input just once in a while can make a huge difference. Even one week of guidance can help you stay on track and make sure you’re not slipping into bad habits or, worse, getting injured by doing exercises wrong.

So, before hitting pause on your gym membership, think about the long-term impact. You don’t have to deactivate your membership to take a breather. Keep moving, even if it’s on your own for a bit. Especially if it's only a short break. And don't forget that working with a coach, even briefly, whilst away from the gym can make sure you’re not losing hard won and valuable momentum.
